There are times in your life when all you can say is ahhhhhhhh and just smile. I had one of those days last week, things were busy, I was at work when a fellow nurse walked up to me and handed me her cell phone and said "here YOU talk to this person" now that in itself makes one want to do exactly the opposite, but I took the phone and said "hello". On the other end of the phone came a sweet little voice that I hadn't heard for a while saying "Hello boss". It was a nurse that I had worked with a while back.
My first thought was oh great I hope she is looking for a job, cause I could sure use a good nurse. Well the next thing I heard was Evelyn say, "hey boss guess what............I have a new baby!" And that's when the ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh moment happened. Now it's pretty normal for women to get excited about a new baby, but this was extra special.
Evelyn is from the Philippines, her husband John is a really nice guy that I have met several times. John and Evelyn have been trying to start a family for several years now. There first baby died shortly after birth (I don't know why), her second pregnancy ended with a miscarriage and her third ended when she miscarried twins. As you can imagine, they were both devastated.
I had heard that they were talking about adoption, but I hadn't seen Evelyn in about 5 or 6 months and the last time I saw her she wasn't pregnant. So this phone call was a big surprise to me.
"Ohhhhh that's wonderful Evelyn", I said in the phone. Then she went on to tell me how they had adopted this sweet baby girl that they named Mia. She told me that her and John were there when the baby was born and that they brought her home from the hospital just three days ago. She told me how much she weighed, how long she was, how loud she was when she cried and how all she did was sleep and eat and mess her diapers LOL. I said "well that's what babies do" I made her promise to send pictures and she did. What an adorable little girl and how lucky she is to be part of this loving family. And that my friends is my ahhhhhhhhh moment.
